Library Mission

The Abbot Vincent Taylor Library advances the Belmont Abbey College mission guided by the Catholic intellectual tradition. We provide research services, study spaces, and a wide variety of resources to meet and anticipate the needs of our college community.

Library Values

Stability

Stability, as the first vow of Benedictine monasticism (RSB 58:17), is a core value of the library. Here, stability is understood as the invitation and commitment to be patiently engaged with, and present to, the community of Belmont Abbey College.

Hospitality

We welcome our college community by providing a respectful and supportive environment, serving each patron with attentiveness and compassion. Through personalized, one-on-one service, we strive to understand and meet each patron’s unique needs.

Access

We are committed to providing equitable access to its resources and collections for all members of the campus community. We continuously assess and adapt our resources, services, and spaces to meet the community’s evolving needs.

Stewardship

We are committed to the responsible and careful preservation of all its resources—printed, digital, archival, and beyond—to ensure access both in the present and the future. Stewardship extends to the responsible maintenance of our services and facilities, as well as the financial support entrusted to us by the college.

Excellence & Virtue

We strive for excellence in serving our community even better, making the most of the resources at our disposal. Virtue remains at the heart of every service we provide, reflecting the Benedictine hallmark of stability, which calls us to serve the community in which we are rooted.
