About Dr. Preston

"Dr. Robert Preston, President Emeritus of Belmont Abbey College, is a graduate of Belmont Abbey’s first graduating class as a senior college in 1953. A native of Richmond, VA, Dr. Preston was educated by the monks of Belmont Abbey also at Benedictine High School there. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy at the Catholic University of America, and embarked on a career which included faculty and senior administrative offices at several colleges and universities. In 1995, at a critical time in the College’s history, Dr. Preston assumed the Presidency of Belmont Abbey College. He not only stabilized the institution’s financial position during his tenure as chief executive officer, but also called the College to focus anew on its Benedictine and Catholic mission. In addition, he started the Bradley Institute for the Study of Christian Culture, named in honor of his undergraduate mentor and predecessor as President, Father John Bradley. Following his term as President, Dr. Preston continued to offer classes in Ethics and Metaphysics until his retirement in 2009."
